Adventure In Tawau

I had an opportunity to conduct a two week musculoskeletal ultrasound course in Vision Diagnostic Tawau for the benefit of the three sonographers working there. During this time I had the opportunity to observe the daily workflow of the aforementioned diagnostic centre, which is a joint venture between Gideon Sdn Bhd and Klinik Dr Shirley Lee. The eponymous Dr Shirley Lee runs her clinic on the floor immediately above the diagnostic centre, and she regularly refers patients for various radiological examinations.

The diagnostic centre's facilities comprise of a wide variety of services, which includes X-ray, ultrasound, mammography and computerized tomography. The lobby of the clinic is usually packed with patients as the clinic is widely known throughout Tawau for its good patient care, prompt service and accurate diagnostic capabilities.

To ensure that the sonographers were able to absorb and retain the maximum amount of knowledge possible during my visit, I conducted all my classes one-to-one. In this manner I was able to gauge the competency level of each of them and adjust my teaching methodology accordingly. Dr Shirley Lee also facilitated the learning process by referring many patients to be scanned in order for real time scanning techniques to be demonstrated in actual clinical settings.

After working hours I had the chance to experience Tawau at night. One of the better spots for an evening soiree is the rooftop bar of LA hotel, which offers a typical menu of pick-me-ups and finger foods, and a panaromic view of the town and the ocean. Sitting on the ledge caressed by the cool, salty breeze while watching the sunset was one of the highlights of my visit.

Thus I thoroughly recommend that Tawau is worth, at the very least, a single visit.

Kota Kinabalu’s Filipino Market: You Must Be Crazy Not To Come Here!

Hi everyone! It is a great honour for me to share my simple but wonderful experience with you guys. I started working at Vision College on December 2013 and I feel very happy to be one of the Education Consultants in the Student’s Recruitment Team (SRT). I love to meet people and passionate to encourage the younger generation to continue pursuing their higher education.
My career as an Education Consultant gave me the opportunity to travel to all corners of our country, starting from Perlis in the north; down to Sabah on the Borneo Island just to encourage more young people especially those SPM leavers continue their studies to a higher level.
But that is not the main story that I want to share here with you guys. I know many of the article’s contributors in this blog will definitely wrote about their job or responsibilities in our college, or they experience throughout their submissive in our college; or maybe some events which apply around the college for you gaze.
Today I want to take another approach; I want to share with all of you about the uniqueness of the Filipino Market that located in the city of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. I had the opportunity to go to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah when I was sent by the college to involve with education roadshow in Sabah and Sarawak on 27th May to 3rd June this year. Like some of us from Peninsular Malaysia, before this I never knew about the existing of Kota Kinabalu’s Filipino Market up until one day I was taken there by Kak Suzie who is also an Education Consultant but based in Sabah.
The Kota Kinabalu’s Filipino Market is in Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens opposite the Centre point Shopping Complex. Its location right in the heart of Kota Kinabalu makes it an accessible place for visitors and tourist. As the name implies, the Filipino market is run by Filipino immigrants. Opened from 7:30am to 7:30pm, you can find a wide range of stuff for you to browse through and buy.
The diverse products you can find in the Filipino market ranges from handicrafts, toiletries to traditional food and medicine. One of the things that you ought to buy in the Filipino market is its famous original pearl priced at around RM5 a piece.

At night time, you can find this Sabah market selling fresh poultry, fishes and prawns. You will be delighted to see the variety of seafood and meat being on offer here. You will also find stalls selling vegetables and fruit here. One local fruit that you should really try out is the Sabah red durian and the “tarap” fruit.
The “tarap” fruit that famous at Borneo
If you are feeling hungry, there are stalls in the Filipino market selling local delicacies and barbequed seafood such as the juicy succulent fish and tiger prawns. Vision Was Here!!

Hi all!
This time my entry will not about my life but a story about an event that I had went to last Saturday (9th August 2014). The event is TEDxKL, it was held at Calvary Convention Centre located near with Bukit Jalil.
I went there with Mr Lee, Fatin, Murni and Zara. At first I thought the talk would be the same boring talk about a person that talked about their life achievement, but at the end I love it and enjoy with the performance they did.

Let me share few things about TEDxKL.
TED is a not for profit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. TED was started in 1984 as a small conference bringing together people from three worlds which are Technology, Entertainment, Design, to talk about how their ideas come together. Since then, TED’s scope has become even broader. Along with the annual TEDConference in Long Beach, California and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford, United Kingdom.
This year theme for TEDxKL is “Open Future”, as it was been chosen because based upon the realization that we are more empowered and connected now as a society, and have faster access to knowledge, with technology at our fingertips. It also about the openness impacting our lives and how we can use the right selected knowledge to shape and create the future.
These were some of the speakers that delivered the talk, Dr. Angelica Lim (Robotics Scientist), Prof. Balbir Singh (Malaria Detective), Ann Khoo (Fair Workplace Advocate) and others. We were also been amaze with the violin performance by Dennis Lau (Violin Virtuoso).

It’s a very good conference where we can motivate ourselves and learn from the speakers’ experience on how they cope with their life’s problem and become a successful person.
I would like to give a special thanks to our boss, Mr. Lee who had given me an opportunity to go to this kind of event where I can gain a new experience.
Thank You,
By,                                                                                           Amir Saini                                                                                   Marketing Executive.

Life Aint’ Easy & Vision Day 2014

Life Aint’ Easy

It is a colouring story about Vision College since I start working here February. I never think that I will involve in education line. Beginning as Telemarketing to recruit student, I learned how to convince student coming for interview and enroll them in diploma programmed that suitable with their SPM result. It’s like giving hope to them to further their study.

Different environment with my Uni life with here which almost people perspective about private college is expensive and just for rich student. Now, parents should know that private does not have different with govern university which also providing loan for students. All should realize now the important is the course that they choose and what will they become after finish study rather than compare it private or government.

During this World Cup season in June and July, mostly male students will have “ball sickness” to watch the match at midnight or early morning. Even female student also enjoy supporting their team. Excited to see them playing game and got prizes for the winner.

There also a zombie game called “Fear the Apocalypse” that require student to find several key in the scary house for escaping from the horror zombie. It really fun and also have lucky draw for the participants.

In the other side, there also a Talent Competition for student shows their talent. Student can participate either in singing or dancing. Some students sing with good vocal and also have student doing arcapela. An Indian girl very good in dancing and have effort to wear costume some more.
