Life at Vision College

Lee Wee Giap, Human Resource Director

Being in Vision College is quite fun. I get to meet people from different places.
During my recent visit to Tawau, Sabah, I did a career talk at SMK Kuhara, the students there were involved in the talk and paid attention. They were very responsive and interested in the Programmes offered in Vision College.

Overwhelming response from SMK Kuhara students
I had the opportunity to meet some CEO and some key personnel of hospitals.

Recently, I went to Penang to visit Hospitals such as Penang Adventist, Island Hospital and Gleneagles Medical Centre as they have voiced their interest in recruiting sonographers or sponsoring sonographers. They were very pleasant people and they enquired about what the sonographers can do. They were quite impressed that the sonographers were able to perform numerous scans within a short period of one year. Penang Adventist has recruited and sponsored previously some of their staff to study in Vision College. Island Hospital, Penang and Gleneagles Medical Centre, Penang has recently sponsored a student each to study the Postgraduate Diploma of Medical Ultrasonography (Asia).

Melaka Mahkota Medical Centre has also visited Vision College recently, they had a look around the college and were quite impressed that there were quite a number of ultrasound systems, which is more than most Hospitals in Malaysia. They were also happy to know that the examiners for the Postgraduate Diploma of Medical Ultrasonography (Asia) were from Australia.

When the Examiners or Visiting lecturer from Australia visit, I have the pleasure of bringing them around to some eateries around Klang Valley. They enjoy the food in Malaysia and the variety of spices. They usually comment on how impress they were with the flexibility of students in switching between languages. I suppose that is what makes us truly Malaysians, we speak in a variety of languages and we understand each other.

Studying Experience at Vision College

Dr. Marshal Peirra, Head of Academics
The main advantages of studying with us, is the small class size of 35 students with individual attention being given to students by our team of dedicated staff. The mainstay of our focus will be for students to acquire knowledge, skills for employability and lifelong learning. We have excellent facilities and infrastructure to deliver the course. We have well equipped comfortable lecture halls, simulation wards and skill labs.

We train our students to think critically and make judgments, solve problems, perform procedures and demonstrate techniques and manage and develop themselves. We also ensure they develop good communication skill and interpersonal and intrapersonal relationship. One of the many ways to develop these soft skills is by getting students to organize social activities. Recently our Nursing students organized a Food Fair in our college. All the food and drinks were prepared by the students. Students woke up as early as 3.00am to prepare Nasi Hujan Panas, Ayam Masak Merah, Fried Popia, Kek Batik and other assorted food to  be sold at the food fair. The event was quite a success with all the food sold off within 2 hours.

The career progression for our students is excellent. The students with good grades can proceed to do the degree, masters and Phd in their respective fields. All graduates are employed in government and private hospitals. The rapid growth of health services in both public and private sectors in this country guarantees a bright future for all our graduates. The graduates can also work in other Commonwealth countries, Middle East and USA.

New Experiences

Cassie Lee, SRT
Working under the Student Recruitment Team for Vision College requires me to travel. I have pretty much ventured the whole of Peninsular and have even flown to East Malaysia. All these efforts are part of our college goal to get in touch with our students and to create a venue for parents to meet us who are far away from our campus.

My most memorable experience would be travelling around Kota Kinabalu and the smaller towns surrounding it. Among the towns that I manage to visit were Kuala Penyu, Tenum, Beaufort, Sipitang and Kota Belud. I love the drive up hill where I was able to get a glimpse of Mount Kinabalu and fill my lung with fresh air from our lovely forest. Not forgetting the clear waters from Pulau Mamutik! The parents and students I’ve met are very welcoming and friendly.

Parents will always worry of their children who are far away from home. At Vision College, we like to reach out to parents to assure that their children are in safe hands and that students are stimulated with meaningful activities. The Student Council and the various clubs in Vision College have organized a lot of activities to make their study experience memorable. Recently, our Sports Club organized a trip to SkyTrex where they participated in various obstacles while being suspended 17 meters above the ground.
