Education Consultant

Salam and Hello…….I am here to share my experience as an education consultant of Vision College. Basically, my job is to provide briefings regarding careers for post SPM students. Student nowadays are very careful to choose which career that they want to do in future and some of them are confuse to choose which career. That is where our JOB begins exactly!

Meeting school students is interesting as we can meet up student from multiple background and it depends on our creativity and experiences on how to help them to have a good planning on their career. Most of them need guidance and advice from people that had more experience in life to help them to choose which career should they take in order to success in the future. Although I do not have any counselling background to consult students, I did share my experiences during my studies and employment to all of the SPM leavers for them to make their best choices to plan their future.

Sometimes we do not need any counselling background to help students in their future making as our experience is the best counselling for ourselves and others. Therefore, I encourage all Vision College's staffs that all have good experience in life to join together in all Education Carnival that our college participate as we can share with our students on what career should they take based on our personal experience.
Education is NOT preparation for LIFE, Education is life ITSELF.

Working in Vision College

I was offered a lecturing position by Vision College. Passing down my skills and my knowledge to the new generation is always a great mission for me to achieve in life. The feeling of arriving back in Vision College one month after my exam was interesting; I got to meet with all my lecturers, tutors and admin staffs who used to give me a big hand during my study time, and what made it more interesting was I get to work with them now.

As a welcoming present, the management presented two fighting fish for me to look after. As you can see from the picture I posted, one is red and another is blue. I think they are really cute and good decorations for my otherwise plain and boring desk. I especially enjoy putting the two fish bowls next to each other and watch the two adorable fish interact with each other! :D

My journey and my teaching life have begun in Vision College. So far I am enjoying my work with fantastic colleagues here, and I hope that I will have a good time working here.

Nurses' Day 2014

Hi everyone! It is a great honour for me to share my simple but wonderful experience with you guys. As a nurse, Nurses’ Day celebration has been a part of me since 1998, when I first started my journey as a nursing student.
I have always enjoyed celebrating this day as this is my day… a very special day of appreciation on my tide and tithes of been called “Nurse”. Nursing is my 2nd love, a love which I gained from my patients' smiles and thanks.
This year – 2014, I celebrated my Nurses’ Day with Vision College's students and colleagues. It has been a great experience especially for the students to understand the real meaning of nursing.

What is Nurses’ Day?
Theme for 2014:
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth. The IND theme for 2014 is: Nurses: A Force for Change – A vital resource for health.
The Origins and History of Nurses Day
Even though National Nurses' Day was first planned in 1953, it was not, until 1974 that things actually worked out, when the International Council of Nurses stated publicly May 12 as International Nurse Day.
The reason that Nurses' Day is observed on the 12th May every year is for the reason that it is the birth date of Florence Nightingale. She made many improvements to nursing and health care and radically cut the death rate amid soldiers in the Crimean War as a consequence of her hard work, devotion and tuition of fellow nurses.
Lastly, “Happy Nurses’ Day” to all student nurses and staffs in Vision College as well as all nurses out there. Know that you are a very special creation of God. Bye...

The Journey

Hello there! It is an honour for me to write and share my thoughts with all of you. I am sure that all readers must be expecting a review of ‘The Journey’, a recent film that has surpassed KL Gangster and Ombak Rindu as the most profitable Malaysian film of all time! However, that is not the context of this story. It is regarding the journey of my life to be a better, healthier person.

I started working at Vision College on December and I feel very happy to be one of the academicians. However, I feel that I need to be in a better shape – physically, in order to fit my job scope that demands a lot of effort and hard work. I feel that even though I am glad with my job and the challenges, I still feel that something is amiss, like an empty feeling inside my heart.

One day, I went for a medical check-up. Thankfully, the results show that I am healthy, but my BMI was horrendous. It struck my heart like a thunderbolt struck by Thor. Even though I have the height, my weight is almost double than the suggested ratio.

Thus, after 2 months of working and after that particular check-up, I signed up with a gym near my house on February 5th. My initial workout is health screening and assessment by my trainer, Farid. I weighted 139 kg on that day and 40% of my weight is fat. F.A.T. FAT!!!  So, he suggested that I need to change my lifestyle: eating habits, physical training, and sleep. From a person who has been drinking sweet drinks EVERYTIME, I need to change them into H20 as the main, sole source and  have to start eating clean, not like I used to where it is a lot rice and pasta. I also need to put my time into physical training on a daily basis to get into shape faster. Sleep is also crucial as the body needs it’s daily, adequate rest.

The first 3 weeks is the hardest as I find myself lethargic and quite emotional even though my body is responding positively. This is because of consistency. I changed my eating habits into 5-meal plan. The three main meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and 2 snacking time between Breakfast-Lunch and Lunch-Dinner. By doing this consistently, it is a good way to energise my body whilst controlling my hunger with many meals but in small portion. My usual breakfast is oats or cereal with milk. My lunch is whether nasi lemak or fried glass noodles (meehoon). My dinner is Subway sandwich (minus the sauces, more veggies). My snack is usually oat biscuits or a Gardenia 70cent bun. Besides this, I drink plain water on a large scale, at least 3 litres daily. It helps to make me feel full even though I am eating in small portions.

Besides dieting, training is essential in losing weight swiftly. I do my trainings on a daily basis at night.  I usually spend my sessions at the gym around 2 hours. My training started with 30 minutes of cardio on treadmill. However, I have added more time of it right after my second week to 1 hour with an added 30 minutes on cross trainer. Currently, my cardio includes both with additional 30 minutes on stepper. Cardio is crucial in losing weight; my main goal.  Another training that I do is weight training. I use the machines to improve my body shape by developing the muscles.

Alright, it has been two months since I started working out. The results are priceless as I have lost 20 kg in that period. Twenty K-Freaking-G! :D

There have been changes as I am slimmer as my families, friends, Vision staffs and students - Yeah, all of you :D - noticed it over the course of time. I feel much better as I am more energetic and active compared to my old self. I hope I can achieve my ideal BMI rate before I end my yearly membership with the gym.

      Gunung Meludung, Cameron Highland
I, Chua Kim Ting, love to meet people and am passionate to encourage the younger generation to continue pursuing their higher education. I started my career in marketing, doing sales and services (MSS) in the banking industry for about 7 years. Then, I made a wise decision to pursue a career in education MSS till today. I enjoy being involved in all levels of strategic planning and implementation of each step; from the beginning of the registration of a college to university and public listing. I believe success is due to teamwork and support of the people in the company and satisfied repeating customers. I care for my colleagues and my boss. They are all my dear friends and I do respect and am happy to work with them. Sometimes I do make mistakes and they help me to correct it. Life is a beautiful journey and as no one is perfect, we must keep learning and motivate each other to be better each day.

Becoming A Good Tutor

With the title that so straight forward, I think most people could have guessed what I am going to share today. Before I start, I have to introduce myself in this blog and it feels so awkward. It feels like you are talking to a mirror.

I am Aisyah, a newbie tutor in our department, Department of Ultrasound. I just started joining this department in January this year but before that, I already worked with Vision College starting from March 2013. So, I already shed my blood, sweat and tears with Vision College for 1 year *congratulate myself

A newbie means that I am lacking skills and still on a journey of becoming a good tutor. So, I am going to share 10 golden rules to become a good tutor.

1. Be honest
2. Be flexible
3. Be patient
4. Be a good listener
5. Be professional
6. Willing to share your own experiences
7. Be a collaborator
8. Teach the student how to learn
9. Be confident
10. Use available resources

Most of people already know this, but the difference is “Are they applying it?”

Challenges that we are facing as tutors nowadays are tough and it reminds me of a video showing how a mother teaches her daughter. It is not related to this topic but it has something that we can learn.

Lastly, people always said that “learning is a continuous process” but for me teaching is also a continuous process.

Ps: Thank you for your help (you know who you are) during the camp and for the participants, I wish you all the best in your future!

It looks fun right? But, for most of the time, I am sitting in front of my laptop (for work) and meeting students and their parents :)

These are all for now. So, see you next time!
